About the muslim marine
Tayyib Rashid, the Muslim Marine, is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Muslims who believe in the Messiah, Mirza Gulam Ahmad of Qadian, India. Tayyib served in the Marines for five years active duty from January 1997 to January 2002. He was born in Peshawar, Pakistan and immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 10 years old.
Upon arrival from Pakistan, Tayyib and his family lived in Washington D.C. for one year after which they moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. After graduating from Glenbard South High School, Tayyib explored college for one year but decided that he wanted something more than to follow the traditional path to success. After consulting with his father and mentors, Tayyib walked into the USMC recruiting office in Downers Grove, IL and signed the paperwork to enlist. He left for boot camp just a few weeks later in January 1997.
After successfully completing a 5 year active duty enlistment, Tayyib returned back to the Chicagoland area and completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering & Technology from Devry University in Addison, IL. After a few years of working in the telecommunication industry, Tayyib again felt the need to aim higher for something more. After careful consideration, he decided to quit his job, sell his home, and left for Champaign, Illinois to pursue his master’s degree.
He completed his MBA at the University of Illinois in May of 2010 and currently works as a Human Resources executive in the area of Talent Management and Leadership Development. As a Muslim, he is extremely passionate about Servant Leadership. He aims to help others learn and develop personally and professionally with the aim of promoting organizational peace & security, trust, respect, passion for winning, integrity, excellence and service to others. His desire to make the world a better place for all people drives everything he does as an HR professional and as a Muslim.
Tayyib continues to serve his adopted nation, the United States of America, by helping combat ignorance in the general public about his faith, promoting actions of peace and service to humanity. He believes that much of the fear and hate in America towards Islam and Muslims is driven by ignorance about the true teachings of Islam because of the horrific atrocities committed by some extremists. To combat such negativity and hate-filled propaganda, Tayyib works to create opportunities for people of all backgrounds and faiths to ask questions they care about the most and to learn about the true teachings of Islam with the intent to foster understanding through education, compassion and service. Tayyib strives to build bridges between all Americans regardless of faith, race or background. He speaks regularly on issues related to Islam, America and terrorism. You can find him engaging the public on social media, in local coffee shops, in churches, synagogues and mosques, or perhaps even standing on a street corner handing out flyers to fellow Chicagoans as they walk by.
